Abel Hernandez Obituary

Jose “Abel” Hernandez was born on January 7th, 1958 in San Jose de Huipana, Michoacán, Mexico. He passed away on February 18th, 2021.  Although his time seemed so short, his family and friends will forever remember and cherish the wonderful memories he left with them.

As a kid, Abel loved going to school and loved to learn.  Most kids in town only finished elementary school and helped their families in the fields.  When Abel approached his parents about pursuing further education, his parents supported the concept which required Abel to travel and eventually move out of town. He attended La Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico in Toluca, outside Mexico City where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics. In his free time, Abel loved playing soccer and spending time with his uncles and cousins.  It was in Toluca where he met his soulmate, Mariana.  They married and had their first two children, Gerardo and Anabel.  The young family moved to Houston Texas, where they subsequently welcomed Jonathan and Chris. Abel quickly found a job as a sacker at a grocery store and worked at a produce plant in the evenings.  He continued to work at the store where was promoted to stocker and then manager in the meat department.  Most recently, Abel owned and operated a landscaping business which serviced residential and commercial customers in Clear Lake City, Texas.  He was a hard worker and when not out of town with family and relatives, he often worked seven days a week.  In September of 2020, Abel was diagnosed with glioblastoma.  He sought medical treatment at MD Anderson, despite the vigorous treatment he received and his fullest desire to live, the cancer was far too aggressive, and the Lord called him home.

Abel was very positive, outgoing, and charismatic, and hence the life of the party.  There was no party until “Tio Abel” or “Abelito” arrived.  He made those around him feel special and welcomed.  He was always ready to extend a lending hand to anyone in need.  He lived by three principles which he bestowed upon his children and loved ones: (a) if you are going to do something, do it well; (b) don’t wait until tomorrow to do something that can be done today; and (c) don’t worry, be happy, everything is going to be okay.

Abel was loved and will be eternally missed by his wife, Mariana Hernandez Vargas, his children, Gerardo Abel Hernandez, Anabel King and Paul E. King III, Jonathan Hernandez, and Christopher Hernandez and grandchildren, Lainey Hernandez, Paul E. King IV, Madison L. King, and Olivia Hernandez.  He is survived by his mother, Elvira Renteria de Hernandez, and preceded in death by his father, Ciriaco Hernandez Espinoza.  He leaves behind nine siblings, who all loved him so much: Manuel Hernandez, Elvia Alvarado, Ruben Hernandez, Arturo Hernandez, Esther Torres, Socorro Hernandez, Leticia Hernandez, Raquel Hernandez, and Jorge Hernandez. Abel was loved by and will be greatly missed by all of his nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
